In recent years, the movement of achieving low carbon operation associated with information and communication technologies (ICT) usage in business sectors has been developing quickly. Many international companies have been aggressively applying innovative technologies and environmentally friendly practices related to ICT operation to cut down their carbon footprints even beyond the traditional energy conservation means. |

The Green ICT Consortium (GICTC) was founded in Nov 2009 by seven professional non-profit organizations in order to promote green ICT in different business sectors in Hong Kong. Committed to "Use ICT to Green, Add Green to ICT", one GICTC member organization, Internet Professional Association Limited (iProA), has obtained funding support from the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to undertake a new initiative of Towards Low Carbon ICT ĦV A Programme to Reduce the Carbon Footprint of ICT Operation and Usage (Ħ§the ProgrammeĦ¨), which will be co-organized by the other six founding organizations of the GICTC. |

The Programme aims to provide assistance to business community of Hong Kong industries in understanding international and local low carbon practices associated with ICT application, and then planning for implementing their own low carbon ICT initiatives so as to reduce overall operational energy/resource consumption as well as the associated carbon emissions. |

The project consists of the following major components:
ĦE Interviews with a number of Pioneer Enterprises;
ĦE Industrial Consultation for understanding market feedback on low carbon ICT;
ĦE Free Pilot ICT Carbon Audit for the selected enterprises;
ĦE Practice Guidelines;
ĦE Electronic Self-assessment Tool; and
ĦE Green ICT Solution Events (seminars and workshops).
